A friend of mine recently asked me about the Tread Sig Sauer M400, a pre-built AR-15 that puts gun owners on the platform and provides an entry-level price point. It's a cool name and sounds funny, but is it everything Sig Sauer claims it is? Read on to find out.

The Tread is a nice looking rifle. I'm still not sure how I feel about a handguard that only has an MLOK slot on the front half. The M400 is ultra-modular, so there is little to change, but I think it should be included rather than separated. It also doesn't fit out of the box views which have been very disappointing to every company I buy from. The Tread is an entry-level rifle, ready out of the box.

However, good news for lefties: the M400 Tread is fully ambidextrous and includes a safety, magazine catch, and QD points on both sides of the rifle.

I'd say the Tread is perfect out of the box. I threw one of my red dots in there, and then started driving the trucks while sitting on the bench. The group's position widened some, but it was still easy to land a shot on target.

To test the long ranges, I grab the LPVO and go to work. The results were similar, but my rifle shooting seemed like it could use some work at 100 yards. I noticed that the bands are inches and vice versa, except for the panels. Putting it out opens the shooting bands to 2-3 inches and I'd say it's still pretty solid.

I'm hesitant to say Tread is real because I'm not 100% convinced. A few roughs and some cheap ammo, but good quality brass bullets. After two hundred rounds, the M400 began to run flawlessly regardless of the gun's condition.

The Sig Sauer Tread M400 is a very solid handgun. It can be found for less than $800. It's just not that surprising. Perfectly designed for anyone looking to get their first AR-15 for the kids under the castle. It's not perfect, but it's cheap, easy to learn/understand, and useful.
