Remington Tools has discovered that a large number of boxes of Remington Premier AccuTip Slugs - PRA12 slugs may contain projectiles containing incorrect propellant. Gun maker Sig Sauer was on the verge of landing a major deal in 2016 to supply the US military with a new pistol. , during the tests, the army made a disturbing discovery. If thrown at a certain angle, the gun would fire itself. Anyway, the company won the deal last year, then fixed the gun before shipping it.

About Those Sig P320 Lawsuits . . .

The military has helped make the S3 Sauer pistol, the P320, a popular choice for police departments and the general public. According to the results of the investigation, for several months the company sold the commercial version of the weapon without any modification for the military.

In the past two years, three law enforcement officers say they suffered gunshot wounds after their P320s were thrown or pushed, according to lawsuits and police department documents. According to a lawsuit filed by a sheriff's deputy in Virginia in April against Sig Sauer, he suffered a broken femur when he discharged his gun and has been ordered to never walk again. At least six P320 users also happened to have handguns.

As word of the problem began to spread in the gun community, Sig Sauer announced a "free upgrade" program in August 2017, allowing P320 owners to send their rifles to the company for a free upgrade, with accidental reloads "very rare." . at the drop But its website says the unmodified gun "meets and exceeds all U.S. safety standards," and the company doesn't issue a recall announcement.

Review Of The Sig Sauer 226 Enhanced Elite

"Before my client was fired, they knew the flaws in this gun. The trigger was too heavy. It fit the military version. They got a half-billion dollar contract. But the commercial version was left alone," said Jeff Bagnell, an attorney for the Virginia representative.

Despite being repeatedly asked for weeks, Sig Sauer did not answer the questions. Company spokesman Joel Harris initially said CEO Ron Cohen was traveling and unavailable. Executives later ignored emails, phone calls, and LinkedIn messages. An attorney representing Sig Sauer in the lawsuit declined to comment on the lawsuit last week.

The updated P320 is now shipping to Sig Sauer stores. But before Sig Sauer publicly acknowledged the problem, more than 500,000 pistols were sold, according to company statements to various gun trade publications. Today, numerous unrestored P320s remain on the streets and can be purchased, both new and pre-owned.

In early May, gun stores in 20 states, large and small, were named. The older version of the P320 pistol was on the shelves at 11 of the 40 gun stores we visited. A review of private seller records on Armslist.com in early May revealed that at least 162 of the 400 models sold since March were the problematic older version, easily identified by its thick trigger.

Only four of the online sellers warned potential buyers about the problem. All three vendors showed unpatched devices, even though they said they hadn't been updated. Another seller took a photo of the gun with a magazine attached to the trigger area, leaving a potential buyer wondering if the gun had been upgraded.

The gun they sell is what the manufacturer maintains. But the company's desire to supply the military with a similar model -- a contract worth up to $580 million -- fixes the weapon. This contract is a badge of honor that the company's sales representatives use to convince police chiefs and municipalities around the country of the gun's safety and reliability.

"It's used as a selling point: if it's good enough for the US military, it's good enough for a police department," said Matthew Griffin, a former Army Ranger captain who spent several years as a contractor providing equipment for military special operations. . "But they deliberately endangered our officers. There must be some culpability."

Sig Sauer Recall

The problem with the original P320 was what the gun industry called "inadvertent discharge," or as the Sig v. Sauer lawsuit explained, "the gun firing without pulling the trigger." Weapons experts say these types of malfunctions are rare, even when the guns are fired. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention analyzed data from 27 states in 2015 and found that 193 people died from "non-gun-related injuries"; "Discarded weapons" were blamed for 12 of those deaths. there are no records of deaths due to P320 failure, but at least three people have been injured.

On Jan. 5, 2017, Stamford Police Department SWAT team member Vincent A. Scheperis stowed tactical gear in the trunk of his hatchback and dropped his P320 pistol, he said. The gun went off on its own, and the bullet went through the back of his left knee, according to the lawsuit filed against Sig Sauer.

"The bullet could have easily taken his life," says the lawsuit filed in Connecticut federal court seven months later. "At no time during or after the incident did Officer Scheperis put his finger on the trigger of the P320 or touch the cocked weapon in any way."

Five days after the incident, Stamford police officers went to Sig Sauer's service center in New Hampshire to check on the gun. watched a video of the visit, during which two company officers retrieved the gun and examined it as the Stamford department's then-weapons specialist, Sgt. Tom Wolf described what happened.

Sig Sauer then fought the Scheperis lawsuit in federal court. In court documents, the company acknowledged the report and called it "the first P320 shipment incident that SIG Sauer is aware of." But among other claims, the company argues that Scheperis can't claim "breach of contract" because he didn't buy the gun, according to the police department. Sig Sauer also says that it has done enough to warn users about the free update program.

"Sig denies any allegations that the Model P320 pistol is subject to recall or is defective," the company responded in a lawsuit.

Another incident occurred on the windy night of October 1, 2017, in the small town of Riverdale, Georgia, when another police officer was slightly injured. Sgt. Derrick Bruton and two other officers were responding to a "suspicious person" call at a suburban home when he tripped over a cinder block, setting off his P320. No one was injured. According to emails from the Riverdale Police Department, Bruton found an object carrying his gun inside the room.

The city decided to protect them. Riverdale Police Chief Todd Spivey said it was the only such incident since the department purchased the gun two years ago. Instead, five months into the officer's experience, the department accepted Sig Sauer's proposal to "upgrade" the weapon.
