Sig 556 Discontinued - Sig is a huge company that sells all over the world. We're pretty used to Sig Sauer in the US, but Sig's Swiss division is a little less well known.
American American means we don't like it when we can't afford it. For the longest time, the Sig 550 series rifle was impossible to get - sort of. in 2007 Sig has announced its intention to introduce the 550 series to the American public as the Sig 556 rifle.

Keep in mind that three years after the ban on these assault weapons, the majority of semi-automatic rifles on the market are the AR 15, the AK series, and the Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30. The new platform was very important.

Sig made the first 556 very attractive. The 556 may have had a 550 rifle on the inside, but not on the outside. Sig tried to convert the 556 into an AR-15, but people wouldn't stop.
They removed the 550 furniture and replaced it with M4 non-breakables, the rail system was either steel or polymer unlike the originals.
They hold AR-15 magazines instead of the unobtanium 550 series. But the change that many didn't think about was the new aluminum.
People weren't happy with the 556. Not only did the 550 look the same, it also had QC with rails and reliability issues.

Sig then created the Sig 556 Classic, which retained AR-15 magazine compatibility but was more classic than the 550. Actually, these weren't true Sig 550 guns, but dropping the M4 stock and weird handguard in favor of a Swiss military model made the difference. the original.
However, the iron did not go well with the sights, as its stock was larger. When using optics, the front view does not work, you cannot change it. People were still not satisfied.
Fortunately, Sig listened to the users and we got the 551-A1. This new rifle has given 550 seekers a gun that could be the real deal.
It has 550 style furniture with a set of gray receivers and authentic 550 mining. The 551-A1 answered 550 fan requests, but at this point many people at Sig USA were injured and the gun leaked.

Sig is famous for releasing dozens of different versions of their guns with minor modifications. While the 551-A1 gave fans the 550 they wanted, Sig didn't seem to make them long.
The Sig 556 was the main game in town. The other was a fine-tuned Sig DMR with a Magpul PRS stock, matching trigger and 21” barrel. We also got a Sig 556 pistol with a 10 inch barrel; Unfortunately, this was in the dark ages before rifle targets.
We also have a Patrol rifle with a shorter handguard, a SWAT rifle with a Picatinny handguard, and even a version of the SWAT Patrol with a shorter Picatinny rail.
During that time, Sig produced my favorite variant of the 556, the 556R. The "R" stands for Russian as it holds 7.62x39mm round and AK-47 series magazines.

The charge came shortly after the 556R went up. Gen 1s suck, and as a Gen 1 owner I've had a lot of mishaps. Fortunately, Sig fixed mine, but they eventually released an improved Gen 2 model to fix the issues.
They also released various models for the ban states, such as the 556R Hunter, a sport configuration model, and even introduced the 556 Holo, a standard red dot model.
However, the botched release of the 556R was considered a major setback and further tarnished the reputation of the 556 line.
Sig decided to update the 556 series with the XI series. Added new stock with cheek lift for better sight, three position adjustable gas system instead of two and M-LOK rail system. Offered in 5.56x45mm and 7.62x39mm, a .300 Blackout version is planned.

They feature fully ambidextrous controls for improved ergonomics and interchangeable charging handles for left- or right-handed use. However, compared to the AR-15, it suffered from a shorter barrel, smaller market, and poorer accuracy.
As a bit of a contradiction, I've always liked AR alternatives; so I'm a big fan of the 55X series. I love my 556R's and think they are awesome.
However, the Sig 556 suffered from poor sales. Rifles were also expensive, and the unreliability of certain models tarnished their reputation. They also offered no significant advantage over the AR platform and had greater accuracy and direct steering.
Sig discontinued the series and replaced it with AR models and the MCX rifle. The 556 now exists as a distant memory for gun owners.

One of the SIG rifles that immediately took my fancy was the SIG 556R, and I ended up not finding it until a few years later.
The SIG 556R was not a standard STANAG Model 5.56 rifle. Instead, it's a 7.62x39mm rifle designed around the AK 47 magazine. It is one of the first AK alternatives to use AK pattern magazines. The SIG 556R was the most modular rifle chambered in 7.62x39mm for high power. It was more modern than the classic Kalashnikov and could become an interesting military rifle.

Many countries in the Middle East, South America and the former Soviet Union support the Kalashnikov. They have millions of AK rounds and tons of AK magazines. When they wanted a new rifle, SIG had it right away, offering modern modularity.
The SIG 556R rifle features a built-in optical rail, heavy polymer use to reduce weight, advanced environmental protection, the ability to mount multiple rail systems, and an adjustable stock. It also folds and is much more comfortable to use than most AK folding stocks.
The upper and lower parts of the gun are similar to the AR 15, and it will be easy to attach different mounts for different applications, including short chain versions. Also, the pistol has a longer sight radius than the AK, and it's easy to attach scopes to the optics, which can be intimidating.
The goal was to create a rifle that would work with AK rifles and ammunition like a Western rifle. A more modular, more customizable and overall more modern rifle.
What Happened To The Sig Sauer 556?
Something about Tasin's design spoke to me and I wanted to. Oh, I also had a 3k AK and a 50 AK mag at the time. So I wanted the same reason for the foreign military. Unfortunately, this killed the 556 series before I got to SIG, especially since the Gen 1 556R had such a bad reputation.
It makes me want to buy it at a ridiculously low price. Apparently he must have had all kinds of problems. I bought it, immediately contacted SIG to fix it, and paid for the shipping label. It took a few weeks, but they fixed the problem and sent it back at no extra charge. My SIG 556R performed like a champ after that and still does.
