Glock 21 Prices - Of all the .45 semi-automatic rifle options, the Glock certainly holds an honorable position. Glock is known for its reliable and simple design - an important factor for many shooters. The Glock can mediate between those who want a larger ammo in their handgun and those who are tired of only holding 6 or 7 rounds in a magazine. This brings us to the gun we are looking at in this review, the Glock 21.

Glock introduced the G21 SF (Short Frame) in 2007 to compete for the DOD contract. The deal didn't pan out, but the firearm gained traction among law enforcement agencies and civilians because of its unique features. Based on the Generation 3 Glock 21, the company has made some modifications for this variant. We shot and operated the Glock 21 SF for this Glock 21 review.

Of the modifications seen on the Glock 21 SF, the most noticeable (as the name suggests) is the smaller bezel. Not to be confused with the width of the frame, the short frame offers less frame depth than the Gen 3 version of the Glock 21. This shorter frame depth allows those with smaller hands the opportunity to get proper focus and access to features. In the new generation (Gen 4) the length of the Glock 21 is about the same as the G21 SF.

As mentioned earlier, the Glock 21 SF is chambered in one of the "big boys" calibers - .45 ACP. Most shooters know the 45 ACP as a classic caliber and a large number of self defense shooters still rely on the cartridge today.

Glock combines tradition with capability in the Glock 21 SF. A 13+1 capacity is offered in the Glock 21 SF - a figure that seems reasonable considering the frame size.

Another unique feature of the Glock 21 SF is the inclusion of a two-way magazine release. While this feature is convenient, I feel that functionality is lacking. I will touch on this in more detail in the review. A select few Glock 21 SF frames are built with Picatinny style rails to mount accessories - not many are happy about and holster compatibility is a concern.

Many of the Glock 21 SF variants available today come from police departments that have rotated them out of service. These trades can be found in some places for as little as $350-$400 - a great deal, no doubt.

When I first got my hands on the G21, I quickly felt at home with my hands. I don't know that everyone likes or even likes the Glock "experience", but who does. Who owns and fires Glocks, it feels comfortable to me. Some might argue that the Glock is an "acquired" taste - whether you like the ergonomics of the Glock, the 21 SF will feel right.

Although it's made to be used by people with different hand sizes, the frame still has a relatively soft feel to it. I shoot a Glock 17 regularly and this frame holds up better than the 17. While I'm not against the feel of the frame or the size, I still have issues accessing the magazine release. I will touch on this more later when I talk about the work side of things.

My expectations of how this gun would handle recoil and running in general were wrong. Based on the caliber, I expected a little more trouble in those follow-up shots. However, I was pleasantly surprised. This gun handles well in my experience. The gun ran every type of ammo I gave it without a problem. I was really impressed with the shrinkage management.

Although the frame is comfortable, I wish it had a more textured surface. Especially after shooting for a while or engaging in sweat, the G21 SF began to feel smooth. The slide on the 21 SF felt like there were no front edges and was difficult to grip consistently. Some edging and serrated discs would be a nice addition to the aftermarket.

Shooting the G21 SF provides great confidence in the hand – confidence that grows when I know that quick and accurate follow-up shots are very possible. I performed several drills using the C-zone steel plate from about 15 meters while moving forward and sideways. The consistent attack and control I experienced with the Glock 21 made this handgun a lot of fun to shoot.

Glocks aren't exactly known for great factory settings or triggers. They get the job done usually nothing impressive. My experience with the G21 SF falls in line with other Glocks I've shot in this regard.

A white "U" shaped rear sight with a stock rear sight is found here on the G21 SF. I can find these places well enough to be pretty confident, but again, I've used these places before. If you buy one of these G21 SF (usually a police trade), be prepared to replace the scope for low light use. I know it comes on demand, but the fiber optic front is blacked out aftermarket options. Seems to work well for me.

My testing of the G21 SF trigger showed an average pull weight of 5.5 pounds using a Lyman trigger gauge—quite typical for a Glock trigger. I know there are many people who are really against these stimuli. I've shot enough Glock handguns at this point not to be bothered by it much.

This trigger in particular feels smoother than a typical Glock trigger. This may be due to age and years of "breaking up." Regardless, I appreciated the simple timing and sharp breaks. No real complaints from me here.

Guns are mostly simple and straightforward. It is a Glock after all. I also noticed something about the feature that seems to be annoying. That's right - the release of double-sided magazines for the first time. I feel that Glock has compromised performance here to meet the requirements of the DOD contract.

The design of the magazine release offers a smaller footprint than your typical Glock magazine release. I ended up having to break the grip and rotate the bezel to access this release. My hands are on the average side of the scale. I was a little shocked that I had to fight as much as I did to get the right angle to get the magazine changed.

The release of the chip still seems a bit off to me. Although the design is similar to a regular slide release from Glock, it doesn't seem to work as one. It uses special and precise pressure to release the slide to move. I ended up just stretching the slider itself on most of my shots. .

This may not be a deal breaker (and I know the disc release option is out there), but I feel it's worth mentioning.

As part of my range testing with the Glock 21 SF, I used the Labrador doppler radar to obtain ballistics data. Use Speer Gold Dot 230 Gr. Ammo, I fired 5 rounds with Labrador running.

The average muzzle velocity of this test was 832 feet per second from the G21 SF. Speer advertised a muzzle velocity of 890 feet per second. Here's a closer look at the bullet performance I recorded with the Glock 21.

The Glock 21 SF is a tried and tested firearm that has clearly seen many years of service. With Glock and aftermarket support readily available, it's hard to go wrong with a gun like this. Considering the price tag and the potential to find a used variant in good condition, the value seems high.

My experience with the G21SF exceeded my expectations in terms of performance and I now want one for myself. It is not a perfect hand weapon, but it has strong abilities to be summoned. Enter some simple post-marketing modifications in my opinion. If you're looking for a well-built, reliable .45 Auto, the Glock 21 SF might just be for you.
